9 DepEd employees infected with coronavirus after Zambales meeting
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—At least nine employees of the Department of Education (DepEd) office in Zambales province have tested positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, after attending a meeting last week, officials said on Wednesday (March 17).
In a text message, Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, confirmed that among the virus-infected DepEd employees were school division officials and a principal.
The infections emerged after 300 DepEd employees in the province were tested for the virus after attending two seminars in Iba town this month.
One of those present at the meeting was the source of the infections, Bueno said.
Based on the latest COVID-19 tally, the province now has 990 confirmed cases. Thirty-eight of these remained active while 928 were recoveries and 23 were fatalities.
