San Juan City brings back 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew amid rising COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan City government is set to reimpose curfew hours starting Tuesday night to address the rising COVID-19 cases in the locality.

In a Facebook post earlier Tuesday, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said curfew hours will be from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Citing Executive Order No. FMZ-072, Zamora said the following persons are exempted from following curfew hours:

FEATURED STORIES
  • health workers and frontline personnel
  • police, military personnel, other law enforcers on duty
  • local government employees
  • government and private employees coming home from work
  • public utility vehicle drivers
  • delivery services (food, medicine, among others)
  • individuals facing emergencies
  • government employees with authorized activities

According to the local chief executive, violators of curfew hours could be fined from P20,000 to P50,000 or jailed from one month up to six months.

As of March 8, San Juan City recorded 4,046 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus disease. Of which, 148 were active cases while 3,792 were recovered patients and 106 were fatalities.

The Department of Health has said that San Juan City is among “high risk” areas for COVID-19 in Metro Manila.
