Roadside bombing plot in village of Satan foiled by Army

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Soldiers foiled a roadside bombing plot in the town of Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao province on Thursday (Feb. 18).

The improvised explosive device (IED) on the highway at the village of Satan in Shariff Aguak.

Lt. Gen. Carleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, said a resident of Satan found the bomb and quickly reported it to the Army.

Lt. Col. Cresencio Sanchez, chief of the Army’s 1st Mechanized Battalion, said the IED was made of a mortar shell and two rocket-propelled projectiles.

A team from the 32nd Explosive and Ordnance Disposal unit safely detonated the IED.

Vinluan said an investigation is ongoing to identify the group or individuals behind the bombing plot.
