CITY OF CALAPAN—The city is now allowing two passengers in a tricycle.

A social media post of the city government on Wednesday (Feb. 17) said a new ordinance had been passed to allow at least two passengers to ride a tricycle together.

The easing of the one-passenger-per tricycle rule came as the city transitions to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

The ordinance specifies where the passengers would sit in the tricycle. One would occupy the sidecar and the other would be at the back of the driver.

The passengers, however, may be allowed to sit in the sidecar together during emergencies if one has special needs like if the passenger was a senior citizen, a PWD or an indigenous person in need of help.

A protective shield should be used between the driver and the passenger at his back.

An odd-even scheme for tricycles would continue. Those with franchise to operate at night may be allowed to go out in the morning if it is in accordance with the odd-even scheme.

Penalty for violations is a fine of P1,000 to P3,000 for the second offense.
