Army troops seize high-powered guns from Samar clash
BORONGAN CITY –– Soldiers from the 46th Infantry Battalion seized high-powered weapons during a 15-minute clash with ten communist rebels at Barangay Layo in Pinabacdao, Samar on Monday, Feb. 8.
In a press statement, the battalion said they received information from a resident about the alleged presence of the rebels in Layo.
Seized during the encounter were two M16 rifles, nine backpacks, five mobile phones, two flashlights, a power bank, a whistle, and documents.
“We assure the people of Samar that the army will use all its resources against the rebel groups.” 801st IB Commander Camilo Ligayo said.
Ligayo also appealed to the New People’s Army to lay down their arms and go back to the fold of the law.
