4 dead, 2 hurt as truck hits 3 vehicles in Nasugbu
LUCENA CITY –– Four persons, including a ranking officer of the Philippine National Police, died and two others were injured after a cargo truck hit three other vehicles in Nasugbu town in Batangas province Friday morning, police said.
Major Jun Bautista, Nasugbu police chief, said in a report that a trailer truck loaded with steel beams and driven by Edgar Adesas was negotiating a descending section of the highway, when it crashed into three other oncoming vehicles – a Toyota Wigo, a Toyota Vios, and a Toyota Fortuner – in Barangay Aga around 7 a.m.
A report said Adesas and truck helper John Rey Basilan; Lieutenant Colonel Abot, a resident of Pasig City and driver of the Vios; and bystander Rachelle Hernando Dime, died in the accident.
“They all died on the spot from fatal body injuries,” Bautista said in a phone interview at noon Friday. He has no information on Abot’s place of assignment.
Jomer Deñoso, the Wigo driver, and Police Staff Sergeant Cesar Seña, who was driving the Fortuner, suffered body injuries, the report said.
Bautista said the wayward truck also crashed into several houses on the side of the road, but the investigators had yet to ascertain the number of house occupants who could have been hurt.
