Northern Samar board to back local disaster execs’ call for hazard pay, other benefits
TACLOBAN CITY –– The provincial board of Northern Samar has vowed to pass a resolution endorsing the appeal of the local disaster risk reduction management officers (LDRRMOs) to be given hazard pay and other compensatory benefits.
Rei Josiah Echano, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), was joined by the 24 local disaster management officers of the province, who sought the provincial board members to help them.
In December last year, the LDRRMOs of the province made an open letter addressed to President Duterte through Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, the chairperson of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, to grant them hazard pay and other compensatory benefits, especially during this time of the pandemic.
“Our group of COVID-19 front-liners deserves not only respect but the necessary recognition and the accompanying benefits that come with it like hazard pay and special risk allowance,” Echano said.
“In the long run, we want to push for their welfare and benefits that are long overdue for all the non-medical front-liners,” he added.
