Cloudy skies for eastern parts of Luzon due to frontal system, ‘amihan’ — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Cagayan Valley and adjacent provinces in the eastern part of Luzon can expect cloudy skies and light to moderate rains still because of the tail end of a frontal system and the northeast monsoon, state meteorologists said on Sunday afternoon.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the conditions experienced in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and northern Quezon would persist until Monday.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon is forecast to have generally fair weather, save for isolated rain showers brought by a thunderstorm activity like the one which was felt over Metro Manila by Sunday afternoon.

While weather conditions up north would remain colder due to the northeast monsoon or amihan on Monday, the rest of Luzon may see warmer weather.  Temperatures may range from 24 to 31 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, Legazpi, and Puerto Princesa, contrary to Tuguegarao’s 22 to 28 degrees, Laoag’s 24 to 29 degrees, and Baguio’s 15 to 22 degrees.

Visayas and Mindanao would be warmer, although isolated rains may still occur especially by afternoon and night.  Tacloban and Iloilo may have temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, 24 to 31 degrees for Cebu, 24 to 32 degrees for Davao, 25 to 32 degrees for Zamboanga, and 22 to 31 degrees for Cagayan de Oro.

Despite the warmer weather recently, Pagasa said that wind model forecasts still indicate that the amihan would prevail in the coming days, possibly bringing temperatures down again by Tuesday and Wednesday.

While no gale warnings have been raised, Pagasa still warned fisherfolk and other boats that sea conditions on Luzon’s eastern and northern waters, along with the coast of Ilocos Region, would have a moderate to rough sea condition.

Eastern Visayas would also see moderate seas, while the rest of the country’s waters would have a slight to moderate sea condition.
