COVID-19 cases surge in Tuguegarao City with 79 single-day infections
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines –Seventy-nine new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in this city on Saturday, Jan. 16, the highest ever recorded here for a single day.
Records from the Cagayan provincial epidemiology surveillance unit showed that most of the fresh cases were caused by local and community transmissions.
Rogelio Sending Jr., Cagayan provincial information officer, on Sunday said the new cases raised the city’s active cases to 238.
The local and community transmissions were observed in 16 villages of the city, said Dr. Carlos Cortina, Cagayan provincial health officer.
The entire Cagayan province has 368 active COVID-19 cases as of Saturday.
Some of the province’s other new cases were recorded in the towns of Baggao, Peñablanca, Alcala, and Pamplona.
