MMDA chief Abalos: Coding scheme still suspended
MANILA, Philippines — New Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Benhur Abalos said the implementation of the number-coding scheme would remain suspended in Metro Manila because public transport had yet to return to normal due to quarantine restrictions amid the pandemic.
“Considering there are still adjustments to the operations of public utility vehicles, the number-coding scheme is suspended until further notice,” said Abalos on Thursday.
The MMDA initially suspended the number-coding scheme for both private and public vehicles in Metro Manila at the height of the quarantine in March, when public transportation modes in Metro Manila were paralyzed due to travel restrictions. —Mariejo S. Ramos
