Negros Occidental eyes 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines for P275 per dose

BACOLOD CITY—Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson will sign an agreement on Friday (Jan. 8) for the province’s coronavirus vaccine supply.

The agreement with AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Philippines Inc., the national government and the Department of Health (DOH) would be for 100,000 doses of AZD1222 vaccines for 50,000 persons.

Each dose will cost P275 for a total of P27.5 million.

Lacson said priority on the vaccination list are health workers and others on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19. But he said he doesn’t know yet when the vaccines would arrive.

The Bacolod City council, in a special session on Wednesday (Jan. 6), also granted Mayor Evelio Leonardia authority to sign a deal with AstraZeneca to advance the purchase of vaccines through the National Task Force Against COVID-19 and the DOH.

The council also authorized the mayor to sign a confidentiality agreement with AstraZeneca.
