MANILA, Philippines — Despite having a low number of COVID-19 cases, the Taguig City local government has urged the public to take extra precautions during the holiday season.

FEATURED STORIES

In a statement on Saturday, the Taguig City LGU said that it will hold establishments “accountable and responsible” for any violation of COVID-19 protocols as the local government sees a “freedom of movement” among Metro Manila residents gathering in malls and other public places for the holidays.

In the LGU’s report on Wednesday, the city has registered five active cases per 100,000 population as of Dec. 15. This record, the LGU added, is far less than the 22 cases per 100,000 population registered for the same period in the entire Metro Manila.

“Habang mababa ang mga kaso natin (While our cases are still low),we can continue to open for business. Wag tayo magpabaya (Let us not be negligent) especially this coming Christmas and holiday season,” Cayetano said.

He warned that tighter lockdowns may be imposed if the number of COVID-19 cases in the city soar from December to February.

“So kung gusto ho natin na magtuloy-tuloy na magbukas ho tayo, dahan-dahang bumalik sa normal na buhay, kailangan maging maingat tayo,” he reminded.

(So if we want businesses to remain open and slowly get back to normal, we need to be careful.)
