New evacuation center to rise in Legazpi City
LIGAO CITY –– A multi-purpose building that will serve as an evacuation center will be constructed in Legazpi City, Albay after its groundbreaking ceremony Friday.
The Philippine Amusement and Gamings Corporation (PAGCOR) donated the P50 million fund to build an evacuation center to be constructed in Homapon village through the request of the Ako Bicol (AKB) partylist.
“This is very beneficial and helpful for villagers in the occurrence of natural disasters and will also be used as a venue for trainings/activities in the community,” AKB Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. said.
Meanwhile, the evacuation centers in different provinces in the Bicol region that are being built by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) will be operational soon. They are now 80 percent complete, according to OCD Bicol spokesperson Gremil Alexis Naz.
“Nearing completion status are [those] in [the] towns of Tiwi and Bacacay in Albay, San Andres and Pandan towns in Catanduanes, San Fernando in Masbate province, Matnog and Pilar towns in Sorsogon, Balud town in Masbate,” Naz said.
