MANILA, Philippines — Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Metro Manila and nearby areas in Luzon on Thursday due to a low pressure area (LPA) in the vicinity of Quezon province, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Isolated rains, meantime, will dampen Visayas and Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms.
In a 5 a.m. live streamed weather forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said the LPA was last spotted at 35 kilomters south southwest of Alabat, Quezon.
Ignacio said there is a slim chance that the LPA will intensify into a tropical depression.
“Sa ngayon, itong LPA mababa ang chansa na maging ganap na bagyo pero ito ay nagpapaulan sa bandang Gitnang Luzon,” said Ignacio.

The northeast monsoon or “amihan” continues to affect extreme Northern Luzon, particularly the Babuyan Islands and Batanes, where light rains are expected.
