Guinayangan, Quezon mayor’s office closed as employee gets COVID-19

LUCENA CITY – The mayor’s office of Guinayangan, Quezon province was temporarily shut down on Monday after one of its employees contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“We are advised by our MHO (Municipal Health Office) to isolate ourselves. One of our office workers turned out positive,” Mayor Cesar Isaac III said on social media on Sunday afternoon.

He said his staff will work from home to pave the way for the thorough disinfection of the office.

A help desk will be placed outside of the mayor’s office to assist the public during the shutdown.

Isaac clarified that only his workplace will be temporarily closed, but all other offices at the municipal hall will remain open to serve the public.

The mayor said he will issue another public announcement once his office is ready to resume operations.

As of Sunday, the town logged a total of 75 COVID-19 cases, with one active case.

Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Quezon province has been on the decline after experiencing a surge during the last two months.

As of Sunday, records from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that the remaining active virus carriers in different parts of the province dropped to 670.

Quezon has so far logged 5,570 COVID-19 cases, including 4,734 recoveries and 166 deaths.
