OFW raped by Kuwaiti cop wins case, comes home
MANILA, Philippines — An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kuwait who lived in a government shelter for distressed OFWs for the past eight years has come home after winning her court case against her Kuwaiti rapist.
The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) said the OFW, who was identified by her alias Minerva, arrived in the Philippines on Nov. 29.
Minerva was sent to Kuwait as a domestic worker in September 2006. In September 2012, she was arrested by a Kuwaiti policeman while her residence visa was up for renewal.
The policeman took her to the desert, raped her inside the patrol car and left her for dead after stabbing her.
In June 2014, the policeman was sentenced to death but upon appeal was commuted to imprisonment. Minerva was awarded P3 million in civil damages last week.
