MMDA: Pasig River Ferry service suspended indefinitely

MANILA, Philippines — Operations of the Pasig River Ferry Service are suspended indefinitely starting Monday due to the effects of Typhoon Ulysses.

In an advisory, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said pontoons of several stations of the ferry were damaged when the typhoon lashed the metropolis last week.

A pontoon serves as a docking platform for ferry boats.

Pontoons in Guadalupe, Hulo, Valenzuela, Pinagbuhatan, and San Joaquin stations were wrecked, MMDA said.

The MMDA said the suspension of operations is “to assure the riding public of its safety in riding the ferry.”

Ulysses, the 21st cyclone storm to hit the country this year, triggered massive flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

Typhoon Ulysses have so far claimed the lives of 67 people.
