‘Animal shelters, preemptive evacuation’ Metro LGUs get ready for Typhoon Rolly
MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units in Metro Manila are opening their evacuation centers for their constituents to prepare for the worst-case scenario of Typhoon Rolly, which made landfall in the country this Sunday.
Typhoon Rolly has slightly weakened but the state weather bureau raised Signal No. 4 over Metro Manila. Under Signal No. 4, winds of greater than 171 kilometers per hour up to 220 kph may be expected in at least 12 hours.
Quezon City
Quezon City Public Information office (PIO) reported that it already brought 50 families so far to evacuation centers in the city.
Of the number, 40 families were brought to Roxas Covered Court, 15 families were brought to Gen. Roxas Elementary School, and four families were transferred to Barangay Isolation Facility.
Of the 50 families, the Quezon City government secured four pregnant women at evacuation centers.
Manila
In Manila, 293 families were already transported to safer areas in Manila amid the onslaught of the typhoon, as of 2 p.m.
Of the 293, 105 are in Barangay 128 evacuation center, 99 in Rosauro Almario Elementary School, and Isabelo Delos Reyes Evacuation Centers, 30 in Barangay 105 Evacuation Center, 10 in Barangay 101 Covered Court, and 49 in Baseco Evacuation Center.
San Juan
The San Juan government also converted San Juan Gym into an evacuation center for those living in low-lying areas, where flash floods could be experienced.
“Inaanyayahan po ang mga nakatira sa mga mabababa at bahaing lugar na lumikas na sa San Juan Gym o sa mga barangay evacuation centers bago pa man bumuhos ang malakas na ulan at pumalo ang malakas na hangin. Manatiling ligtas mga minamahal kong San Juaneño,” Mayor Francis Zamora said in a Facebook post.
(I am asking those living in low-lying areas to evacuate to San Juan gym or other barangay evacuation centers before the typhoon worsens.)
Valenzuela
In Valenzuela, the local government distributed sleeping kits and comfort packs at evacuation centers inside their schools.

Aside from this, the city also prepared temporary shelters for animals that could also be at risk during the typhoon.

Pasig
Prior to Rolly’s landfall, the Pasig government checked its pumping stations to prepare for possible torrential rains brought by typhoon Rolly.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report, over 2,420 families were transported to evacuation centers in Metro Manila.
