Wanted Korean escapes from Taguig police jail

MANILA, Philippines — A Korean national, wanted by the international police for engaging in telephone fraud or phishing, has escaped from his detention cell inside the headquarters of the Southern Police District (SPD) in Taguig City.

Lim Yeong-jun, 36, remains at large after bolting out of his cell at around 11:45 p.m. on Friday.

Based on a police report, Lim asked the jail officer on duty if he could use the comfort room outside the detention cell.

“Upon opening, [Lim] choked and hit the police officer many times in the head,” it noted.

Another Korean detainee, Kwon Hyeok-soo, 39, aided Lim.

The escapees then took the service firearm of the police officer and “at gunpoint locked the front door, leaving him inside while the suspects immediately fled by jumping from the window.”

Kwon was arrested on Saturday.
