MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Justice (DoJ) has submitted for resolution its investigation into the death of broadcaster and environmentalist Dr. Gerry Ortega.

Assistant State Prosecutor Steward Allan Mariano, head of the panel of investigators, said they would come up with a ruling within 60 days.

In July last year, the DoJ panel of investigators cleared former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes and five others of murder for lack of evidence.

However, in September, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima ordered a reinvestigation of the case after complainant, Ortega’s widow Dr. Patria Ortega submitted additional evidence that would support their allegations against former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes, former Marinduque Governor Jose Carreon, Coron Mayor Mario Reyes, lawyer Romeo Seratubias, Arturo Regalado and Percival Lecias.

Ortega was killed last Jan. 24, 2011 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
