39 test positive for COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 39 individuals tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Eastern Visayas on Monday, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 3,442.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the new cases are from the provinces of Samar with 23; Leyte, 12; Southern Leyte, three; and Biliran, one.

Samar Gov. Michael Reynolds Tan called on the people to cooperate to help slow down the spread of the virus.

Samar has 1,196 COVID-19 cases with 13 deaths.

“I appeal to all of you to cooperate with us to stop the spread of the virus. We can do this. This is for our benefit,” Tan said.

Of the 23 new cases in Samar, 12 of them were from Calbayog City.

In Catbalogan City, three of the eight new cases involve frontliners.
