Seniors to get pensions, grants via cash cards
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Wednesday it would begin to release the pensions of indigent senior citizens and unconditional cash transfers (UCT) via bank cash cards.
The DSWD said it was working together with the Land Bank of the Philippines for the new program.
“At present, the social pension subsidies and the UCT grants are given through direct payout, or house-to-house distribution,” DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said.
The DSWD said it hoped the new mode of distribution would be a safer and faster way to send out stipends.
According to Dumlao, the cash cards will be distributed within the year.
