MANILA, Philippines — A start-up company that advocates environmental sustainability has launched a clothing line made from flour sacks, more popularly known as “katsa.”

Palawan-based AraPilak unveiled the Ba’law clothing that seeks to promote environmentally conscious fashion to lessen people’s carbon footprint.

Ba’law is the Cuyonon word for awareness. The language is spoken on the coast of the province.

AraPilak said this latest addition to their collection is an attempt to bring back the customary Filipino practice of using “katsa” to create diapers, handkerchiefs, clothes and curtains, among others.

“We want to bring back this beautiful Filipino custom that makes wise use of whatever is available to us,” it said.
