COVID-19 cases in PH soar to 217,396 with over 22,000 new recoveries
MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines has reached over 217,000 after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 4,284 new cases.
As of August 30, DOH said there are now 217,396 COVID-19 cases in the country, of which 56,473 are considered active cases.
Meanwhile, the DOH has recorded 22,319 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 157,403.
The death toll is now at 3,520 after 102 more patients died because of the disease.
The coronavirus disease outbreak first emerged in Wuhan City, in the Hubei province of China in late December last year.
COVID-19 can cause mild to moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people. However, older adults and people with underlying health issues may experience more serious illnesses including pneumonia and death.
