Tropical depression off northern Luzon may enter PAR as an LPA — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression off northern Luzon may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as a low-pressure area but will not affect the weather condition in the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.

The weather disturbance was last spotted 1,740 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon, according to Pagasa’s 4 a.m. bulletin.

Moving westward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), the tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

“Inaasahan natin na ito ay papasok ng PAR pero hindi naman po natin inaasahan na makakapaekto sa alinmang bahagi ng ating bansa. Posibleng kapag pumasok ito ng PAR ay isang low pressure area na lamang ito,” Pagasa weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said.

(We expect that it will enter PAR but will not affect any part of the country. It may enter PAR as a low-pressure area.)

Based on Pagasa’s forecast, the intertropical convergence zone will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the Bicol Region, Visayas, Mindanao, Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.

The ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that cause rains in affected areas.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, according to the state weather bureau.

Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
Iloilo City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
Cebu: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
Tacloban City: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
Zamboanga City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
Davao City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
