Enrollment in Central Luzon private schools drops
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Much fewer students enrolled in private schools in Central Luzon for the reopening of classes this month.
As of Thursday, enrollment in 1,729 private schools offering K-12 curriculum in the region reached 206,869 or 37.19 percent of last school year’s enrollment, Department of Education data obtained by the INQUIRER showed.
Twelve private schools have alerted the DepEd of their closure this year.
“It is possible that some of the 63 percent [of students in private schools] transferred to public schools,” Michelle Catap-Lacson, DepEd public information office, said.
As of end-July, 2.106 million students were enrolled in public schools, 17,522 in the Alternative Learning System, and 4,267 in state or local universities and colleges.
Not yet enrolled are 248,886 students or 10.34 percent in public schools and 352,994 or 63.46 percent in private schools.
