LPA may cross Luzon in 24 hours while bringing rains over area, Visayas
MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of the country may cross the Luzon landmass within 24 hours while bringing moderate to heavy rains in parts of Luzon and Visayas, state meteorologists said on Wednesday.
Latest forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the LPA, last spotted 35 kilometers north northwest of Daet, Camarines Norte, would cause showers in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and in Aurora province.
Meanwhile, scattered rains are possible for the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, and Visayas, while Mindanao may see a generally fair weather for Wednesday night and Thursday except for isolated thunderstorms.
Despite bringing rains, the LPA is still not expected to develop into a tropical depression, although Pagasa has previously warned that the weather activity may trigger the revival of the southwest monsoon or “Habagat”.
“‘Yung low pressure area ay patuloy na kumikilos pa-kanluran, papunta nga dito sa Luzon at inaasahan na sa susunod na 24 oras ay tatawid ito, at posibleng bukas ay nasa West Philippine Sea na,” weather specialist Robb Gile said.
“Ang low pressure area na ito ang siyang humahatak sa Hanging Habagat o southwest monsoon na nagdadagdag sa pag-ulan na nararanasan sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng ating bansa,” he added.
Weather in various parts of the country may continue to be colder due to the cloudy weather and rains, as temperatures in Metro Manila range from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius, 24 to 29 degrees in Legazpi and Tuguegarao, and 22 to 27 degrees in Tagaytay.
In Visayas, Iloilo would see temperatures in between 24 to 29 degrees Celsius, 24 to 31 for Tacloban, 25 to 30 degrees in Cebu, while weather in Mindanao especially in Davao and Cagayan de Oro may be fair, at 25 to 33 degrees and 24 to 32 degrees, respectively.
Pagasa’s forecasts show that the cold and rainy weather would persist in Metro Manila until Saturday, while it would slightly improve by Sunday.
No gale warning has been raised as of now, but the country’s eastern seas would see a moderate to rough condition due to the thunderstorms and the LPA. On the western side, seas would be moderate while Mindanao’s southern seas would have a slight to moderate condition.
