Returnees from Metro Manila raise Palawan’s COVID-19 tally to 67
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Palawan’s list of COVID-19 cases has grown to 67 after two stranded persons returning to their hometowns in the province tested positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes the disease.
The town of Dumaran was the latest to land on the list after its rural health unit reported a case involving a 21-year-old woman who was returning from Mandaluyong City in Metro Manila.
The woman was finishing her 14-day quarantine as a stranded person when she tested positive for coronavirus antibodies on July 18, prompting health authorities to subject her to a more comprehensive test which confirmed her infection on Wednesday (July 22).
The lone female COVID-19 patient in Dumaran arrived on July 4 aboard Philippine Airlines. She remained without symptoms and quarantined in one of the town’s facilities.
In the town of Sofronio Espanola, the 27-year-old mom of an infected 5-year-old girl also tested positive for coronavirus.
Dr. Rhodora Tingson, the municipal health officer, said in a phone interview that the mom was the town’s latest COVID-19 patient.
Article continues after this advertisementThe woman and her family arrived last July 12 aboard a 2Go vessel. The woman’s 32-year-old husband, along with their daughter, had shown symptoms of COVID-19 and tested positive last Sunday (July 19).

The new cases had brought the province’s tally to 67 with 45 recoveries and one fatality.
