CEBU CITY—Former senator John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña, 84, was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after at least 20 days of fighting the coronavirus, disproving social media rumors that he had passed.

“Those who died at the [intensive care unit] were way younger than me. God must have a purpose to have me survive this. I am perfectly well, my breathing is fine. Thank you for all the prayers,” Toledo City Community Affairs and Development Officer Ferliza Contratista quoted Osmeña as saying.

The grandson of the late President Sergio Osmeña Sr., served as senator for three terms. He is the brother of former Cebu governor Emilio “Lito” Osmeña, and cousin of former Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña. —Nestle Semilla and Ador Vincent Mayol
