Angeles City mayor orders shutdown of public market after vendor dies of COVID-19
ANGELES CITY –– Mayor Carmelo Lazatin has ordered the temporary shutdown of the Pampang public market, one of the biggest in Pampanga province, starting Wednesday after a vendor there died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday.
The vendor, a 21-year-old man from Barangay Pampang, had diabetes, according to Dr. Froilan Canlas, Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center officer-in-charge.
Lazatin also ordered the rapid testing on all stall owners and vendors in the market, and its disinfection.
An intensive contact tracing was also done to prevent the spread of the disease, he said in a statement.
Lazatin did not say when the market would be reopened but said safety protocols must be completed first. He urged the use of the San Nicolas public market in the meantime.
Angeles City has 29 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with two active cases in Barangay Margot. Of these, 23 patients had recovered and four died. INQ
