LUCENA CITY –– Four new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients have been reported in Quezon, bringing to 138 the total number of cases in the province, the Quezon Public Information Office (QPIO) revealed Tuesday.

In its bulletin, the QPIO, citing the latest record from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), traced the four new cases to the towns of General Luna, Catanauan, Sariaya, and the island municipality of Polillo.

However, the first COVID-19 patient from Polillo had died.

General Luna has recorded its first validated virus carrier, while Sariaya now has a total of six cases with three recoveries. Another two died.

Catanauan has 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases without a single recovery yet.

The QPIO also reported that Quezon, which is under general community quarantine, has at least 93 recovered patients and 10 deaths among confirmed COVID-19 patients.

The province now has 35 active virus carriers.

Authorities in different parts of the province still keep watch over 116 “suspected virus carriers,” all confined in medical facilities, while another 73 remain under home quarantine, the QPIO report said.

However, the tally of the QPIO and Lucena City on COVID-19 recoveries in the city remained to be reconciled.

Lucena Mayor Roderick Alcala said the city has three newly recovered COVID-19 patients, bringing the total number of healed patients to 58.

“The city now has five remaining active (COVID-19) cases,” Alcala said in a text message.

But in the latest QPIO report, the QPIO listed Lucena with 63 recorded COVID-19 cases and 44 recoveries, thus, with 19 active virus carriers remaining.

Alcala explained that the IPHO still awaits the completion of the 14-day home quarantine period of the other recovered local patients.
