COVID-19 claims lives of 2 more cops
MANILA, Philippines — Two more police officers have succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total of deaths in the ranks of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to seven as of Monday.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac on Monday said one of the police officers who died of COVID-19 was from Cebu City.
“May dalawang kasama na binawian ng buhay. Tayo ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng nasawi,” he told reporters in a briefing.
(There are two more officers who have lost their lives to COVID-19. We offer our condolences to their families.)
‘Yung isa nating natanggap na ulat ay galing sa Cebu, ‘yung isa di pa natin matukoy kung saan galing,” Banac added.
(One of them is reported to be from Cebu while the location of the other one is still being verified.)
Article continues after this advertisementAs of Sunday, a total of 414 policemen have contracted COVID-19. Of this number, 240 have already recovered.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, 699 police officers were classified as probable cases of the coronavirus disease while 873 were classified as suspected cases.
Banac said most of the cases were from Metro Manila and from the Central Visayas.
So far, the Philippines has recorded 25,930 cases of COVID-19, with 5,954 recoveries and 1,088 deaths. #
