Thunderstorms loom in Luzon, other areas despite hot weather — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines – Isolated thunderstorms that would bring rain showers are still possible especially in the afternoon and by night, even with the hot and humid weather, state meteorologists said on Thursday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), cloud bands can be seen hovering around the Luzon landmass and other parts of the country, even as the southwesterly surface windflow only affects the extreme northern Luzon area.

This is the same scenario experienced last Wednesday afternoon, when light to moderate rains in Metro Manila and its nearby provinces were noted even if mornings and noon were hot and humid.

“‘Yong mga pag-ulan na nararanasan natin ay tatagal lamang po ‘yan ng mga isa hanggang dalawang oras.” weather specialist Ana Clauren said in Pagasa’s forecast.

Pagasa advised the public to monitor thunderstorm advisories issued by the bureau, posted on their official social media accounts.

Meanwhile, temperatures may range from 25 to 35 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, 24 to 35 degrees in Tuguegarao, and 27 to 34 degrees in Legazpi.

The same hot and humid weather can be said for Visayas and parts of Mindanao, due to the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific ocean.  In Visayas, temperatures are expected to peak at 33 degrees Celsius for Cebu and Iloilo; and play around 27 to 34 degrees in Davao.

Pagasa however does not discount the possibility of rains in the region especially in the afternoon.

No gale warning has been raised which means that fisherfolk with small boats may set sail, as sea condition all over the country will be slight to moderate.
