32 more medical frontliners recover from COVID-19; no new deaths recorded

MANILA, Philippines — An additional 32 healthcare workers were reported to have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH) announced Monday.

This brought the total of recovered medical frontliners to 938 as of May 17.

The DOH also recorded three new healthcare professionals who contracted the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, raising the total to 2,314. Of the number, 1,341 are considered active cases.

Nurses are the most number of COVID-19 cases among healthcare professionals, with 841 cases, followed by physicians or doctors with 671 cases.

Meanwhile, 144 of the cases are nursing assistants; 84 are medical technologists; 42 are radiologic technologists; while 284 are the non-medical staff.

Meanwhile, no new death was reported, the total of which remained at 35.

So far, the Philippines have 12,718 cases of COVID-19, with 2,729 recoveries and 831 fatalities.

Last Saturday, the government started to ease up quarantine protocols in some parts of the country, with Metro Manila shifting to modified enhanced community quarantine.

The DOH reminded the public to continue practicing physical distancing, wearing face masks in public, and other non-pharmaceutical measures against COVID-19 such as frequent handwashing and using sanitizers.
