Health frontliners positive with COVID-19 now over 2K
MANILA, Philippines — The number of healthcare workers infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) breached the 2,000th mark, with 76 new cases recorded as of May 11.
The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday announced that 2,067 healthcare professionals are now confirmed to have COVID-19.
Fifty-nine more medical frontliners were able to beat the disease, bringing the total of recoveries to 643.
However, the death toll for healthcare workers rose to 35 with one more succumbing to COVID-19.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the number of healthcare workers getting infected with the coronavirus is further declining.
So far, the Philippines has 11,350 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 2,016 patients recovering from the disease while 751 died from it.
