Masbate jail guard survives shooting at close range

LEGAZPI CITY—A guard at the provincial jail survived an attack by a motorcycle-riding suspect on Monday in the town of Milagros, Masbate province.

Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said Paul Gallo, 36, guard at the Masbate Provincial Jail, was on his motorcycle on the way to work when the assailant, also on a motorcycle, shot him at close range.

Gallo was hit in the head but was still alive.

The gunman fled while Gallo was rushed to the Masbate Doctors’ Hospital in Masbate City.

Police could not say yet what the motive for the shooting was.
