Process of return laid out for Palawan residents stranded by COVID-19 lockdowns
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Palawan residents kept from coming home by COVID-19 lockdowns that started on March 14 in Luzon would get a chance to do so.
Jeremias Alili, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in a press statement on Friday (May 1) asked the stranded individuals to contact the disaster response offices of their hometowns to coordinate their return.
The arrangements were being made after Vice Gov. Dennis Socrates on Wednesday (April 30) said border closures would still be in place in Palawan towns even under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) in the province.
The GCQ would be in effect from May 1 to May 15.
Municipal disaster response officials were tasked with doing an inventory of stranded Palawan residents per town to organize their return.
Alili, however, said the homecomings may not take place immediately as arrangements between municipal governments have yet to be finalized.
