PNP sends over P220-M donation for SAP funds

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) turned over more than P220-million worth of donations to the National Treasury to augment funding of social amelioration program, which is the government’s emergency cash subsidy to poor households affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

“As the Team PNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge culminates today, and after some accounting and auditing procedures to ensure transparency and accountability, we are now ready to turn-over the full amount of P220,371,471.00 pesos to the National Treasury to augment government funds for social amelioration programs to feed the poorest of poor and help the needy,” PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said in an online press briefing on Thursday.

Gamboa, likewise, thanked police personnel for donating regardless of the amount. The donation drive exceeded its initial target of P200 million.

“I must thank each and every member of the PNP for taking part is probably the largest fund drive in PNP history,” he said.

“Regardless of the amount of individual donation, all of us PCO (police commissioned officers), PNCO (police non-commissioned officers) and NUP [non-uniformed personnel] of the PNP can rightfully claim to be a proud donor, of the P220,371,471.00 PNP Bayanihan Fund that we have collected, even overshooting our initial target of P200-million,” he added.

The PNP donation drive, which began on April 12, tasked police personnel to give any amount of cash. Gamboa assured his police officers that the donation will not lead to a reduction of salary.
