63 persons inside Cebu City jail test COVID-19-positive
CEBU CITY –– At least 63 persons inside the Cebu City Jail (CCJ) tested positive for the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the number of cases behind bars in the city to 207.
In a post on Facebook, Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella, however, has not indicated yet whether the new 63 COVID-19 cases involved inmates or jail officers.
Labella said the Cebu City Health Department and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology were adopting measures to address the rising COVID-19 cases inside the jail facility.
Earlier, the CCJ in Barangay Kalunasan has assigned an isolation building after the rise in the number of COVID-19 patients there.
As of April 24, 13 jail guards were also infected by the dreaded virus.
The CCJ, a facility built for 1,800, now houses about 6,000 inmates.
