Navotas to shoulder cremation of COVID-19 dead

/ 05:10 AM April 23, 2020

MANILA, Philipines — With families already struggling emotionally and financially to deal with the loss of a loved one due to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a city-owned crematorium in Navotas has offered its services for free.

Since March 20, NavoHimlayan has processed 37 bodies of COVID-19 patients. “Cremation is expensive and can deplete a family’s resources, especially at this time when everyone is struggling to cope with the health crisis.

Through the NavoHimlayan, we hope to somehow lessen the burden of families who lost their loved ones to COVID-19,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said in a statement. As of Tuesday, Navotas had 25 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with six deaths and five recoveries.
