DPWH employee at PICC quarantine facility dies pending COVID-19 test result

MANILA, Philippines — An employee of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has died while awaiting test results for coronavirus, a DPWH official confirmed.

“A colleague in DPWH, who worked in the PICC (Philippine International Convention Center) Quarantine Facility, died today. He exhibited diarrhea and was already tested for COVID-19. We are now awaiting results of the test,” DPWH spokesperson Anna Lamentillo said in a statement on Sunday.

“We have started with the process of contact tracing. We will voluntarily submit to self quarantine while awaiting the results from RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine),” Lamentillo added.

PICC is one of the state-owned facilities that has been converted into a quarantine facility for COVID-19 patients.

As of Sunday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 6,259. Of this number, 572 have recovered and 409 have died.
