SANTA MARIA, Isabela –– Three children drowned while gathering clams in Cagayan River on Saturday, police said.

Investigators identified the three as Gilmore Canceran Jr., 14; Cristal Jale Gatan, 11; and Ericka Callueng, 7, all residents of San Isidro West of this town.

Police said the children and some of their relatives went to the river in Barangay San Isidro, about four kilometers from their village, to look for food at 11:20 a.m. despite the ongoing community quarantine.

The bodies of Canceran and Gatan have been recovered and brought to a funeral parlor, while rescuers continue to search for Callueng’s body.
