4 more police officers test positive for COVID-19; PNP now has 59 cases

MANILA, Philippines — Four more police officers have tested positive for novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, bringing the total count at the Philippine National Police (PNP) to 59.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac on Thursday said the number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at three while the number of recovered PNP personnel remains at eight.

Banac added that there are 14 police officers who are now on home quarantine.

Also, the country’s police force has 512 suspects or persons under investigation (PUIs) who have not been tested for coronavirus and 61 probable or PUIs who are awaiting test results from laboratories.

The coronavirus disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus which first emerged in Wuhan City in Cina’s Hubei province in late last year.

The virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough but it can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for older adults and those with existing health conditions.
