DOH reports 76 new cases of COVID-19 in PH, total now at 3,094

MANILA, Philippines — There were 76 new recorded cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippines, bringing the total to 3,094, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

Five people also managed to recover from the viral disease, with the total recoveries now at 57.

However, the DOH also reported eight new fatalities. This brings the total number of COVID-19 patients that succumbed to the disease to 144.

Previously, the previous record of COVID-19 cases in the country was at 3,018, with 52 recoveries and 136 deaths.

The COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus that first emerged in China’s city of Wuhan in Hubei province in late 2019.

That novel coronavirus was later named SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.

The virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people but can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
