MANILA, Philippines — Over 190,000 workers were affected by the temporary closure of establishments in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic, a report submitted by President Rodrigo Duterte showed.

Citing data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the report noted that 6,060 establishments have temporarily closed as measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were put in place.

The said closures have affected 190,932 workers, according to the report released to reporters by Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon.

Meanwhile, DOLE said 3,082 establishments covering 137,496 workers have implemented flexible work arrangements.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier placed the entire Luzon under enhanced community quarantine as a part of the government’s effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Under the enhanced community quarantine, “strict home quarantine shall be implemented in all households; transportation shall be suspended; provision for food and essential services shall be regulated, and heightened presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine procedures will be implemented.”
