Las Piñas COVID-19 cases rise to 17

MANILA, Philippines — There are now 17 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Las Piñas City, the local government unit announced Saturday.

Of the said number, two have recovered from the highly infectious disease, the local government added in its Facebook post.

Las Piñas previously recorded 13 cases of the viral disease.

Meanwhile, the Las Piñas LGU is monitoring 23 persons under investigation (PUI), and 389 persons under monitoring (PUM) .

A person is considered a PUM if he/she has history of travel to a country where local transmission of COVID-19 was recorded, but is asymptomatic.

One is considered a PUI, meanwhile, is he/she has history of travel, and is symptomatic, meaning he/she has signs of respiratory illness, dry cough or fever.

As of Saturday, the country’s total record for COVID-19 cases is at 803, with 54 deaths and 31 recoveries.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and was first detected in the city of Wuhan in China.

That novel coronavirus is later named SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.

Such virus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough for most people, but can cause serious illness such as pneumonia for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
