COVID-19 cases in QC rise to 97

MANILA, Philippines — There are now 97 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Quezon City, the local government announced Thursday.

The number of cases rose to 10, as it was previously recorded that there were 87 confirmed COVID-19 positive cases.

The new cases, recorded as of 7 p.m. Thursday, were in Barangays Bahay Toro, Mariblo, San Isidro Labrador, San Jose, West Triangle, Bagong Silangan, Doña Imelda and Culiat.

Meanwhile, an additional COVID-19 fatality was recorded, bringing the total number of people succumbing to COVID-19 to 14.

The total recoveries from COVID-19 in Quezon City jumped to nine.

The local government added that 14 barangays have been placed under “extreme enhanced community quarantine.”

To curb the spread of COVID-19 in the city, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office together with Quezon City Fire Department said that it has disinfected 51 barangays.

The Quezon City government added that it has distributed 595,000 food packs.

Mayor Joy Belmonte  also signed Executive Order No. 24, Series of 2020, where a liquor ban is imposed in Quezon City starting March 26 until the end of the enhanced community quarantine.

Under the ordinance, all persons, entities, and establishments are prohibited from selling, distributing, and providing any liquor, wine, beer or any alcoholic products.

To recall, the entire Luzon island was placed under enhanced community quarantine to contain the spread of COVID-19.
