QC dorm to provide almost 80 rooms for frontliners left out by communities
MANILA, Philippines — A private dormitory in Tandang Sora, Quezon City has agreed to provide almost 80 of its rooms to frontliners who “experienced discrimination” due to treating patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Quezon City local government said Thursday.
In a statement, the LGU said that it reached an agreement with Rainbow Place Dormitory through the efforts of the city’s Small Business Cooperatives Development Promotions Office (SBCDPO) officer in charge Mona Yap.
Yap said that the dormitory has allocated 20 rooms in Building 2, 14 rooms in Building 3, 24 rooms in Building 4 and 18 rooms in Building 5 for the city’s frontliners.
“Malaking tulong ito sa ating mga frontliners, lalo na sa ating health workers, na nakararanas ng diskrimasyon at pangungutya sa kanilang mga lugar dahil sa kanilang trabaho,” Yap said.
(This is a big help to all of our frontliners, especially to our health workers who experienced discrimination and being ridiculed because of their job.)
“The local government will make the necessary preparation of the rooms and the proper arrangement with our frontliners,” she added.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 707, including 45 deaths and 28 recoveries, data from the Department of Health showed.

In Quezon City, there are 87 confirmed cases of the viral disease with 13 fatalities.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City LGU added that its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) conducted a simultaneous decontamination and disinfection campaign in the city’s six districts to combat the spread of the virus.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), fire volunteers, fire brigades and barangay officials also participated in the disinfection, city (DRRMO) head Mike Marasigan said.
