A 51-year-old woman allegedly attempted to escape health authorities in San Juan City after finding out that she tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Wednesday.

Initial information said the woman was about to be escorted by city health officials and city police officers to a hospital in Quezon City when she allegedly tried to escape and drove away from her vehicle which was being escorted, towards a hospital in Taguig City.

Reports said health authorities chased the woman until they reached the hospital’s parking lot.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, in a statement, said the woman already knew that she tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11 but the woman insisted on being treated at the hospital of her choice, and not at the Quezon City hospital.

“When test results confirmed that she was positive for COVID-19 last March 11, she headed to a private hospital that she preferred. However, the hospital could not accommodate her anymore so the City Health and the PNP escorted her to a different hospital for immediate treatment,” said the mayor.

“She is now in stable condition and receiving proper care and treatment,” he said.

Police officers who escorted her will undergo a 14-day quarantine period.
