Mayor to place Cainta under quarantine due to 3 COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths
SAN PEDRO CITY – With three confirmed cases and two 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) deaths, local officials placed Cainta, Rizal under a community quarantine to contain the virus spread.
Cainta Mayor Johnielle Keith Nieto, in a Facebook post on Friday said the local government will commence drawing up the guidelines for the quarantine, which is set to take effect Sunday at the same time Metro Manila will enforce travel restrictions as ordered by President Duterte.
“Pursuant to the President’s pronouncements, documented in an inter-agency resolution involving COVID19…I am constrained to place the entire town of Cainta under quarantine,” Nieto said in an advisory issued Thursday night.
Rizal province, which has since suspended classes, has recorded three COVID-19 cases.
Two of the cases were recorded in Barangay San Isidro, and the other one in Barangay San Andres, all in Cainta, which lies in close proximity to Metro Manila.
It was not immediately clear where exactly the fatalities were from.
Article continues after this advertisementAside from Cainta, Rizal, a fourth case in the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) region was confirmed in Imus City, Cavite.
Article continues after this advertisementAccording to the initial guidelines set by the government’s Inter-Agency Task Force against the infectious disease, a municipality or city with at least two confirmed cases recorded from different villages is advised to enforce a community quarantine.
Nieto said public “fumigation and misting” will continue as well as the distribution of alcohol and soap at the municipal hall until its supplies last.
